Builder: Bath Iron Works, Bath Me. Laid Down: June 7, 1943 Launched: October 27, 1943 Commissioned: January 21, 1944 Decommissioned: May 30, 1947 Recommissioned: October 5, 1950 Decommissioned 11/30/70 Fate: Sold 3/19/75 and broken up.

We are seeking information on the USS Walke and her crews. Files and photos may be E-mailed to us and we will incorporate them into this page. When enough information has been assembled we will then build the ship her own section.

I want to point out to you a veteran's story in the Library of Congress's Veteran's History Project.

Earl Harvey Morris served aboard the U.S.S. Walke during WWII. The Library of Congress has digitized his diary and made it available on-line. It contains valuable information about the Walke and other destroyers during the Okinawa campaign of May 1945.
