This is a picture of my Husband/Dad of Jefferson, IA and the USS Johnston. He served on the Johnston
from January 1953 till his discharge September 1954. On 7 January 1953 he departed from Newport,
RI for NATO operations in the North Atlantic. The Johnston aided the Dutch after storms in the
North Sea had caused extensive flooding in the Netherlands. He then sailing for duty in the
Mediterranean for 2 months and then along the Atlantic coast from New England to Cuba till his
discharge. While on the Johnston he visited ports in
Great Britain, France, and Scandinavia.
Thank you so much for developing this web site where we can honor our service people of the
past.
Very truly yours,
Betty (wife),
Leonard, Barbara, Annalee, Steven, and Rodney (children).
