My dad (USNR Lt. Eugene Francis Harrington) served in the Pacific on the Leary as one of its Gunnery Officers during WWII, from the shakedown cruise Spring 1944, thru action at Suriago Strait, Lingayen Gulf, Okinawa, Aleutians, back to Derstroyer Base San Diego for inactivation 1945. He & my mom made lifelong friends among the ship’s officers: Johnny Newland, Tacoma; Tom Hall, Lake Charles, LA. Also among the officers were Bill Seidman, Grand Rapids (in civilian life went on to serve US govt in various economic advisory capacities), Lt. N.V. Karp, Dr. Q.N. Harer, Lt. I. Levy, & Lt. R.E. Gardner. I have some pics.
