DD 655 (Fletcher class)
We are seeking information on the USS John Hood and her crews. Files and photos may be E-mailed to us and we will incorporate them into these pages.
The E-mail: 6/11/08: My brother, Raymond D. White (Commander Us Navy Reserve Ret.), was on DD 655 as engineering Damage Control Officer . His service was in the 60s or 70s I believe. He has retired again from civil engineering and lives in Nashville, Tennessee. I was excited to discover a life ring marked “DD-655” hanging over the door of a “ surplus” store in DeLand, Florida. It took Raymond several years of visits to actually purchase it. This memento hangs In his home near a professional model of the HOOD. Sincerely,
3/7/05: Sir, The limited information I've obtained on my father, Lieutenant Alfred C. Drouillard, that I know to be accurate, is that he was instrumental in the decommission of the John Hood in Charleston, S.C. in 1946. It appears that after the decommission, my father went to Japan on another ship, possibly a frigate. When I see my father in Texas in the near future, I'll be sure to get the details on the decommission of the John Hood in '46. Best regards,
