DD 476 (Fletcher class)
We are seeking information on the USS Hutchins and her crews. Files and photos may be E-mailed to us and we will incorporate them into these pages.
The E-mail:
Subject: Hutchins DD 476 Dear Mr. Roberts, My name is Nik Roosevelt and I am the grandson of one of the crewmembers that was on the Hutchins during WWII. I realy apreciate what you are doing with your web page and I am sure that my grandfather, John Roosevelt, would love it as well if I could ever convince him to come near a computer. He served abourd the Hutchins as a Gunners Mate for the final three years of the war. Thank you for honering him and his shipmates with this site. One other thing. I wanted to make a slight correnction to the information you have on the Hutchins. It was heavily damaged by a kamikaze moter boat full of explosives, not a kamikaze airplane. The boat pulled up next to the Hutchins and detonated, causing severe damage to the engines and hull. The war ended before repairs where complete, and the Hutchins was then sold off as scrap. Again, thank you for this website, and if you have any questions or would like any information about my grandfather and what he can remember about his time onboard, you can e-mail me at monion@siu.edu. Nik Roosevelt
