7/28/06: Mark,
I came across a list of names for my last ship and I'd like you to delete GRECO, James, QM2.
Jim passed away last year.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) Greetings to my fellow Montgomery shipmates. This was my first and only frigate but I enjoyed the ride. Serving in a ships store and barber shop the size of a broom closet. Washing clothes with one washer and one dryer. Filling two soda machines and having one almost fall on me during heavy seas. My greatest reward was being protestant lay leader before, during and after the Gulf War. Soon I will be retiring after 20 years but I will never forget all the adventures there. I have to say one thing to the CMC and XO during my tenure, thank you for the Phantom of the Opera tickets. It was a fabulous show with a wonderful story to tell. Later ya'll. SH2 "Dave" Jordan
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (DE-1082) HI, WAS ONBOARD FROM 1971 TO 1973 (PLANKOWNER). I SAY, HI AGAIN, TO ALL OF MY CREW MEMBERS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES. WE HAD SOME GOOD TIMES AND I DO NOT FEEL WE HAD ANY BAD TIMES. I SAY A VERY STRONG THANK YOU TO CMDR PALMER FOR ALL THAT HE DID FOR US, THANK YOU CMDR. YES, I WAS THE ONE ON THE HELM WHEN WE WENT TO GQ, REPLENISHMENT AND REFUELING. I HOPE I DID A GOOD JOB AS WE NEVER HIT ANY ONE. AGAIN MY BEST TO YOU ALL, BILL SORENSEN
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) A great big hello to all of our Elmer shipmates. The Montgomery has a semi-official website. It has a great list of fellow shipmates and lots of contacts. So, if you have served on Elmer, visit the web site and add your name. Review the Log entries and you will probably find several people you know.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I loved the time I spent onboard the Mighty Magoo. Great Crew.

Webmaster Note:
Tim Cohen has a wonderful
collage of "newsclips." Quite a testament to the ship & crew.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (DE-1082) Great web site! Hello to all my old ship mates who can remember back that far and thanks to those I served with that made those memories worth while.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I first came aboard the big 'Magoo' in Bathe, ME when it was in dry dock. Many fine memories aboard her. I am looking to hear from shipmates who served aboard her during these years, especially OI Division. If anybody has any info on them please let me know.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) Enjoyed the time spent onboard the Monty. Hope to hear from some people I hung out with.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I served onboard the "Monty" from May of 1989 to August of 1992. Better known as the "Senior Seaman," I spent the entire time on this great ship as an E-3. Thanks to all my friends for a memorable time in many, many, many ports. "TO THE FRONT!"
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) Hi to all. I served on the Monty through Desert Shield/Storm. I was an electrician working under EMC Hawkins. I got out of the navy just before the decommisioning and handing over of the ship to the Turks. I remember several friends even some which have also written to this. I also want to thank everyone for this site. It is nice to know that i may be able to get in touch with some old friends through this site.

Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (DE-1082) I served on the Montgomery from 1971 until my enlistment expired in August of 1974 and am a plank owner. I look back on my tenure with fondness, although I didn't think I would at the time. I think the thing that made the experience so memorable was the crew that I served with. I can remember many, but not all. I began my stretch on the MAGOO as an SN in the First Division and after much struggle and trouble, mainly of my own making, was demoted, promoted and finally wound up making Boats 3RD. The deck crew spent many a day and night hanging over the side chipping off paint we had only reciently put on. We worked hard and we partied too hard. One of the reasons form my one demotion. If they read this, I'd like to say ahoy to a couple of shipmates that I haven't seen in over 25 years. Yes the experience was that long lasting. To BMC Parr, BM1 Reins, BM2 Ford, BM2 Richardson DECK APES Shook, Sample, Fontenette, Shaw, Andicott, Scotty, Ramsey, Jeffcoat, Matthew, Sealy, etal-ROUST APES! BM3 LYNN BENEDICT
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I reported aboard the MONTGOMERY out of boot camp. We worked hard, and played hard (except John's and Conner's). Very sorry to see she was sold to Turkey for parts / scrap. She was a fine lady.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (DE-1082) Great site, sure was interesting emails. Was a member of the precom crew in Avondale . Interested in hearing from others and in a reunion. Many wonderfull memories and good friends.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I served on the MAGOO from 75-78. I'll tell you, it was the most fun I've ever had, especaily the poker games in the ballroom. I have seen alot of my old shipmates on the web. Has anyone heard from "skip" BM3 Ewing? or any of the "boats" on the Magoo???
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (DE-1082) Would like to hear from some of the old sonar people from the original commissioning crew. What happened to the reunion?
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I was surfing the navy's website looking for pictures of Montgomery. I had served on her as a SA in 1st division for just over a year nad a half. After not finding anything there (except she was sold as junk to spain) I used a search engine and there was an EXACT match. suprise!! Elmer Montgomery was the only ship I sailed on in the Navy. I've been looking for my friends since about '97 with not much luck. I recommend everyone reading this to go to classmates.com. They have a military section and E. Montgomery is there. In the near future (if you don't mind) I have a bunch of photos you can sort through and see if you like any. During my time on "Monty" i've sailed to the med and Gitmo, with several 2 week jaunts up the seaboard. Got my honorable discharge in March, 1988. Anyone who wants pics can e-mail me at: cotnmth@go.com and I will get back to you soonest. I work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and a Boat Captain in the oil industry (still a sailor, imagine that). Thanks for listening.
Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) Thanks for the reply Mark, I was stationed onboard the Elmer Montgomery from November 1982 until June 1986. Reached the rank of HT2. Subject: USS Elmer Montgomery (FF-1082) I was married to ET2 Kenneth J. Schoonmaker on Sept. 17, 1983 while the ship was in dry-dock in Bathe, Maine. I know he was onboard this ship until October 1984, how long before that I'm not sure. I am looking for anyone on this ship who may remember who he was. Remember several names but lost contact when we moved from Jacksonville, Florida in 84'. Please email me if you remember anything. Thank you, Judith F. Schoonmaker.
