I WAS A CREW MEMBER ABOARD SUPER SAM FROM 1986 TO 1989. SUPER SAM WAS ONE OF THE BEST TOUR OF DUTY I HAD. AS LEADING PETTY OFFICER I HAD ONE OF THE BEST GROUP OF COOKS THAT I HAD IN MY CAREER. FRIENDSHIPS WAS SOME OF THE BEST. MY SUPPLY OFFICER AND MYSELF WAS ABLE TO FORM A BOND TO MAKE THINGS RUN EASIER. OUR CHIEF ENGINEER YOU COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER ONE. I WAS HONOR THAT LCDR BELLIS INVITED ME TO HIS WEDDING AFTER BOTH OF US HAD LEFT SUPER SAM IT WAS A GREAT REUNION FOR US AND CAPT BUTLER.
SUPER SAM HAD THE BEST OF EVERYTHING

I served aboard the USS TIDEWATER (AD 31), 1968-1971. We changed a screw on the Sampson in 1967 while in Souda Bay, Crete. Attached is a photo of the change out.

I served aboard the Sampson during Desert Storm as an EW2. I did a search yesterday at the Fire Department on her and came across lot of info. I saw that the patch I designed during the cruise had been made. Is there anyone you can get me in contact with that might know where I can obtain a patch? Maybe who sent the pic of the patch in to you? When we decommissioned her the patch was not made yet. I know it has been over 10 years since, but I would like to track a patch down. I believe I still have the original designs of that patch and will look through my Sampson things today. I have also fixed up the 2 patches on that link to be a little more readable if you would like to reload them.
Please let me know either way on this.
Thanks and stay safe....Mark
