The second USS Hart (DD 594) was named for Lt. Patrick Hart, who was born on 31 May 1915 in New York City. Graduating from the Naval Academy in 1937, he served aboard Colorado and West Virginia until 1940, when he went to flight school and was designated Naval Aviator in 1940. Lt. Hart was killed in battle while flying with Torpedo Squadron 3 at the Battle of Midway, and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for heroism while attacking Japanese aircraft carriers.
