USS Sigsbee
DD 502
(Fletcher Class)

Mail Call

I have been researching my uncle who was KIA in WW 2. He was a destroyerman on the Sigsbee. I came across DOL and found it helpful in my search. Your name was listed as the Fletcher class contact. I am in the process of obtaining my uncles personnel file from St. Louis. and hopeing to get muster rolls, ship logs, battle and casualty reports from Archives II in College Park, Md. I came across a picture of the
Sigsbee after she was damaged by a kamikaze on April 14th 1945 off Okinawa.
My uncle was lost that day and the picture was a real find for my family (.jpg at www.navsource.org). Can you help me find any known crew members you might know of.......e-mail addy's or phone numbers etc.

I started with one question, "What about uncle Guy's Navy career? Its now turned in to a labor of love for me as I gather information on Destroyers and my uncle. Thanks in advance.

I reported for duty aboard the USS Sigsbee January 23,1943 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a draft of one from Pier 92. I left the ship in Pearl Harbour about August 1, 1943 as her new stern section was being refitted (from the Kamikaze hit April 14,1945).
