Summary of Task Groups
![]()
It is amazing the number of ships that the U.S.S. Craven, DD 382 served with in many Task Units,
Task Forces and Convoys during the war. Many other ships came in contact with the Craven in ports
when nesting together and at sea participating in special assignments and training. The names of
the ships were taken from the Craven’s Log that was available for the life of the ship. The Craven
served with 16 Battleships, 25 Carriers, 36 Cruisers, 55 Transports, 42 Oilers, 172 Destroyers, 15
Destroyer Escorts, 7 Frigates and many other ships of various types during the period December 7,
1941 to VJ Day.
Below is an example of the ships involved in a Task Group going into battle and in a convoy of supply
and personnel ships. These groups extended over the horizon and were many miles long.
